CEAP-2020 guide

CEAP-2020 classification for chronic venous disease

CEAP-2020 is used to describe chronic venous disease and varicose veins in a consistent clinical language. PhleboCEAP turns that structure into a CEAP classification app workflow for vascular surgeons.

How it looks in PhleboCEAP

The app keeps CEAP coding, right and left leg selection, templates, and result sharing close to the clinical workflow.

What CEAP describes

CEAP combines clinical manifestations, etiology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and diagnostic level. This makes the diagnosis more reproducible than a free-text description and easier to compare across visits.

Clinical class C0-C6

The clinical section covers visible and palpable signs from C0 to C6, including recurrent disease and C4 subtypes such as pigmentation, eczema, lipodermatosclerosis, white atrophy, and corona phlebectatica.

Etiology, anatomy, and pathophysiology

CEAP-2020 allows the surgeon to document primary, secondary, congenital, or no identified etiology, then specify affected venous anatomy and mechanisms such as reflux, obstruction, or their combination.

Right and left leg coding

Venous disease is often asymmetric. Separate Dxt and Sin coding helps keep the right and left lower limbs independent while still allowing quick copying when the clinical pattern is similar.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CEAP-2020 classification?+

CEAP-2020 is an international classification for chronic venous disease. It structures the diagnosis by clinical class, etiology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and diagnostic level.

Can CEAP coding be documented separately for each leg?+

Yes. PhleboCEAP supports separate Dxt and Sin coding so the right and left legs can be documented independently.

Does PhleboCEAP replace clinical judgment?+

No. The app helps prepare structured documentation, while the physician remains responsible for clinical assessment and final decisions.

Keep CEAP coding close to the clinical workflow.

PhleboCEAP brings CEAP-2020 coding, ICD-10 diagnosis, SuperCEAP scoring, and sharing into one iPhone tool.

PhleboCEAP is a documentation aid for clinicians. It helps prepare CEAP codes and diagnosis wording, but it does not replace clinical judgment or the physician's responsibility for the final diagnosis.
